DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is behind bars after an assault and robbery at a gas station on the city's west side.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says 24-year-old Jamal Tavon Irvin of Detroit is accused of an unarmed robbery at a Mobile gas station in the 4040 block of West Warren Avenue, just west of West Grand Boulevard.

It all unfolded around 1 p.m. on June 8 when a 37-year-old man was outside the gas station. Authorities say Irvin approached the victim as he unsuccessfully tried to run back inside the building, before allegedly assaulting and robbing the victim of a necklace and bracelet.

Irvin fled the scene, before being arrested by Detroit police on June 14.

Irvin is facing one count of unarmed robbery and was expected to be arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court.
