DETROIT (WWJ) - One man is hospitalized after he was stabbed several times while driving on M-39 in Detroit on Tuesday evening, state police said, after a dispute over a lottery ticket got heated.

According to Michigan State Police, the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Feb. 21 on a stretch of the Southfield Freeway near McNichols in Detroit.

A 33-year-old man from Detroit called 911 to report he had been stabbed multiple times while diving northbound on the freeway by his passenger. The victim left the scene and was able to get to a Citgo gas station.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in temporary serious condition, MSP added.

During their investigation, MSP found the victim was stabbed as he was driving and the dispute escalated over a lottery ticket purchased earlier in the day.

Troopers said they have been able to identify a suspect and a suspect vehicle — MPS is currently working on locating that suspect, whose identity has not been released.

Further information about the case was not made public by authorities. More details are expected to be released as they become available.
