DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police have arrested a man linked to two rapes on the city’s northwest side, including an 80-year-old woman last week.

Detroit Police Chief James White said early Tuesday Kenneth Davis, Jr., was wanted for breaking into a home on Memorial Street near I-96 and the Southfield Freeway on March 26 and raping the elderly woman.

Authorities announced Tuesday evening he has been taken into custody. He was captured just two hours after his photo was released to the public.

"Thank you to our community activists and residents for their support," Detroit police officials said on social media.

White announced during a press conference Tuesday Davis also allegedly sexually assaulted a 64-year-old woman Monday night near Grand River and Ferguson.

Authorities did not release many details about the alleged attack Monday night, but White said officers were working tirelessly to bring Davis into custody.

“We will pursue him relentlessly hour by hour until we get him off the street,” White said Tuesday afternoon, noting police believed he had family in the area.

“It is our understanding that he is associated with the area in which we believe he struck twice. And if the family is with him, we would ask that they not harbor him or aid him in any way to escape and to turn him in,” White said.

While he noted “a lot of investigative work went into identifying the suspect” – including surveillance video and other on-the-ground work – White said he couldn’t comment whether police had DNA evidence linking him to the rapes.

Authorities have not said where Davis was arrested or what charges he may face.
