DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police and Child Protective Services are investigating after a young boy was found wandering on the city's west side Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say a man was working on a house in the 16700 block of Gilchrist – near Puritan Avenue and the Southfield Freeway – around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a woman pull up in a silver Chevy Trailblazer.

The woman got out of the SUV, dropped the child off, and fled the scene, according to police.

Officers were called to the scene and quickly came and picked the child up and took him to the 8th Precinct.

Police released a photo of the boy Tuesday evening and had been asking for tips to find his family.

In an update later in the night, officials said the parents had been located.

"The Detroit Police Department and Child Protective Services will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident," officials said.

It was not immediately clear if the parents had retaken custody of the child Tuesday night as the investigation continued.
