Authorities from the DPD’s Crisis Negotiation Team were able to make contact shortly after 2 p.m. with the suspect and his mother, who was reportedly not in the home when her son barricaded himself inside.

In a statement, Detroit Police Deputy Chief Franklin Hayes said the suspect was working with an attorney to turn himself in.

Police said they were processing the scene for ballistic evidence to determine if the gun had been involved in any other acts of violence.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.
