DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is on for a man caught on home surveillance camera setting fire to a Detroit home on Valentine's Day.

Detroit police officials say it happened just after 7 a.m. on the city's northeast side when a man was seen walking up to a home in the 18500 block of Fleming – near 7 Mile and Conant – with a gas can inside of a brown paper bag.

Video released Wednesday shows the suspect pouring gas on the front of the brick home and lighting it on fire.

As the flames ignite, the man falls on the ground and scrambles away.

While no one was home at the time, the fire caused damage to the front of the home, according to police.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and light blue jeans.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes him or knows something about the incident to call the Detroit Police Department's Arson Unit at 313-596-2940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
