DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for a woman accused of carjacking a stranger who gave her a ride on Detroit's northeast side.
Detroit police say they received a call around 4:30 a.m. on March 13 from an 18-year-old female in the area of Gratiot and Tacoma, reporting she had just been carjacked.
The woman said she gave an unknown female a ride from a Mobil gas station in the 17700 block of 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe.
While they were driving, the suspect threatened her and demanded her vehicle.
The victim complied in the area of Gratiot and Tacoma, before the suspect drove away in the victim's vehicle westbound on Tacoma towards Schoenherr Street.
While the vehicle was recovered two days later a little more than a mile away in the 10600 block of Bonita, near Outer Drive and Hayes Street.
Police have released an image of the suspect from a surveillance camera inside the gas station. The suspect is described as a black female with a heavy build and short, red hair.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the crime to call the Detroit Police Department's Commercial Auto Theft Unit at 313-596-2555. Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
