DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are still searching for a man who was captured on video dumping liquid around a house and lighting it on fire.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting the fire around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on the 18700 block of Avon Avenue, near 7 Mile Road and the Southfield Freeway on the city's northwest side.
Last week police released video of the incident, which showed a man pouring liquid around the base of the house and on the exterior walls before setting it on fire and fleeing on foot, headed south on Avon.
Authorities have not disclosed the severity of the damage to the home or if there were any injuries reported.
While a motive in the case remains unclear, police have now released new surveillance images of the suspect, who was seen inside inside of a convenience store.
Authorities say a $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone who can provide tips that lead to his arrest.
Police are asking the community for help in identifying the suspect; anyone with information about this crime should contact the Detroit Police Department’s Arson Unit at 313-596-2940.
Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Information can also be submitted online here.
All calls and online submissions through Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous.
