(WWJ) The body of a 36-year-old swimmer who had been missing since early Thursday was recovered by divers in Walled Lake.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the body of Walled Lake resident Adam Malecki was found in about 30 feet of water by Oakland County Search and Rescue, at around 7 p.m. Friday.
Investigators said the man jumped off a pontoon boat and began swimming with two friends as storms were moving into the area late Wednesday night, into early Thursday morning.
When the two friends made it safely shore, but Malecki did not, the friends call 911.
The sheriff's office said a search of the lake, early Thursday and into Friday, was difficult due to weather conditions, and because the friends were unable to provide exact locations as to where they were swimming and where Malecki was last seen.
Assisting in the search was the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, a coalition of area law enforcement agencies and fire departments including from Genesee, Livingston, Macomb and Wayne counties, Van Buren Township, and the Michigan State Police, which was created to respond to water emergencies.
An autopsy by the Oakland County Medical Examiner was planned for Saturday.
Editor's note: Sherriff's officials earlier reported the victim's age as 34, later issuing a correction to reflect that he was 36 years old.
