RIVERVIEW, MICH. (WWJ) -- A Downriver man is facing several charges after he allegedly tried to murder his former boss.
An ex-employee of a Riverview business, 32-year-old Nathan Scott Bottrell, shot the owner in a parking lot on Thursday, April 14, before fleeing on his bicycle, said officials.
WDIV reports that Riverview police officers were called at approximately 6:09 p.m. to a business in the 11000 block of Longsdorf Avenue on reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police said they learned that Bottrell was the person who was responsible for the shooting.
Employees told police that Bottrell used to work for the business.
The business owner was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery.
Authorities said they spoke with Bottrell on the phone after he returned to his apartment, where they were able to convince Bottrell to leave his apartment and surrender.
He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Across the street from the shooting is the Riverview school bus garage, which went under a brief lockdown because of the incident. According to WDIV, when a bus driver told school officials what was happening, Riverview Community High School and Memorial Elementary School went under a lockdown, as well.
Bottrell was arraigned Saturday on charges of aggravated assault with intent to commit murder, assault with great bodily harm less than murder, felonious assault and three felony firearm violations.
Bottrell is being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $150,000 bond, cash/surety, and must wear a GPS tether if released.
