WEBBER TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- A driver from Oakland County was arrested, but his unconventional passenger is not expected to face any charges after a high-speed chase in northwestern Michigan.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a patrol sergeant was patrolling US-10 late Saturday night when he spotted a speeding vehicle.
When the sergeant tried to make a traffic stop, the sheriff's office says the drive fled, leading deputies and Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers on a brief pursuit.
The chase ended when the vehicle got stuck between two trees on the Rails-To-Trails pathway near S. Forman Rd. in Webber Township.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old man from Oak Park, while officers had to chase down the "passenger": an alligator named Karen.
The sheriff's office said Karren "attempted to flee the scene but was taken into custody after a short scuffle."
"Karen is not facing any charges at this time," the sheriff's office added, sharing video of the incident on social media. "We believe she was an unwilling participant during the incident, nor do we believe she was ever in control of the vehicle."
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, is now facing several charges. According to the sheriff's office, the man also had several warrants from another jurisdiction.
