WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - The disgraced head coach for Farmington High School's Junior Varsity boys basketball team was charged with criminal sexual conduct on Thursday after investigators claim he raped two teenaged boys at his Detroit home.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Jerremy Thompkins, 43, of Detroit, in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old Farmington Hills boy, and a 16-year-old Oak Park boy that began back in August.

The Detroit Police Department investigated the case alleging Thompkins sexually assaulted the two victims at his home in the 8500 block of Asbury Park Drive in Detroit from August 2023 to October 2023.

Thompkins was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Fourth Degree.

Last week, officials for Farmington Public Schools released a statement on their decision to fire four basketball coaches, including Thompson.

District Superintendent Chris Delgado said the district launched an investigation into the alleged incident on Monday, Oct. 9, the same day a concerned parent contacted school officials.

"The administrative team immediately began an investigation and by the end of the day, that coach was fired. The case was turned over to Detroit Police (where the former coach lives) under suspicion of sexual behavior directed from the coach toward a couple of players," Delgado wrote.

Every member of the JV basketball team was interviewed and the district enacted Social Emotional Support for all players.

The district's investigation led them to discover that three other coaches in the school's basketball program were aware that players visited Thompkins' Detroit home, a clear violation of the district's policy.

But they never informed administration, Delgado stated.

On Monday, Oct. 16, those three coaches were terminated from their positions as the case broke on local news outlets.

"The actions of this individual do not get to define what FPS stands for, the opportunities we provide for students, or the character of our more than 1200 dedicated coaches, teachers and other staff members," the superintendent concluded.

Worthy said Thompkins "violated" his position as a coach and preyed on the children he was supposed to guide and protect.

“We want to able to trust the people that we allow to coach, teach, and spend time with our children," Worthy said. "Sometimes they are predators that betray and abuse that trust in unimaginable ways."

More facts and evidence are expected to come to light at the preliminary examination, Worthy added.

Thompkins was expected to be arraigned on Thursday in 36th District Court, but a bomb threat made at the downtown Detroit courthouse prompted an evacuation around 9 a.m. His arraignment was later rescheduled for 2:30 p.m.
