FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) -- Police in Farmington Hills are asking for tips as they work to identify and track down a couple wanted in a case of gross indecency in a residential driveway.
The Farmington Hills Police Department on Thursday released photos of the suspects, who were captured on a home security camera as they were "preparing to engage in sexual activity in public," according to police.
On Monday, Sept. 9, police got a call from a concerned resident who said her minor son was expecting a package delivery when he got an alert from the family's home security camera system that there was motion in their driveway.
The teen, who was at school, opened the live video to see a silver Toyota Corolla back into their driveway and park near the house.
According to police, who viewed the footage, a man and a woman got out of the car and stood behind an open car door. That's when both people pulled down their pants, fully exposing their genitals to the home’s security camera.
The couple was preparing to have sex, police said, when they were interrupted by a passing motorist. It's not clear what happened next, as the camera stopped recording.
“I’m disturbed by this brazen activity,” said Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King, in a news release. “The activity exposed a teenager to disturbing behavior and violated the sanctity of the residents’ home where they should feel safe and secure. This is a very active investigation with detectives working to develop additional information.”
Speaking to WWJ's Jon Hewett Friday afternoon, King said the department has identified one of the people involved, as they could see the license plate of the backed-in car.
While police will deal with similar incidents from time to time in parking lots or public parks, King said "this is the first time in my 29-year career strange individuals just pull up into someone's residential area."
"This wasn't like a house that was abandoned or up for sale or a secluded area. This was a well-populated, occupied subdivision," he said, calling the incident "shocking and unacceptable."
Anyone who can identify these people, or who has any information about this incident, is asked to call the Farmington Hills PD Command Desk at 248-871-2610.
