DETROIT (WWJ) – General Motors has plans for an all-electric future, and the company is looking to hire new team members.
GM is holding a three-day career fair Monday-Wednesday this week, with hiring events at Factory ZERO – the site for the former Detroit-Hamtramck Plant, now the company's first all-electric facility.
GM is hiring a number different positions, including some entry-level spots – those who assemble parts into packages that go into vehicles, and those who move those parts around the building.
But Kristen Everhardt, a GM HR executive, tells WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert they're also looking for experienced skilled trades workers.
That includes electricians, millwrights, pipefitters and tool makers. She calls the opportunity "very exciting," and it's a good way to get a foot in the door.
"There's no experience required. We are open arms and welcoming to having people who do not have prior manufacturing experience because we do do on-the-job training for those roles," Everhardt said.
Here's the schedule for GM's job fair:
Monday, April 25th from 10AM – 3:30 PM (Skilled trades)
Tuesday, April 26th from 11 AM – 6 PM (Skilled trades and Subsystems)
Wednesday, April 27th from 10 AM – 3:30 PM (Subsystems)
WHERE: Factory ZERO Visitor's Lobby (2500 East Grand Boulevard Detroit, MI 48211-2002)
Officials say those interested can apply online to expedite the in-person hiring process, but applicants can also apply on-site.
More information on the job fair can be found on Facebook.
