(WWJ) One of the state's top Republicans has apologized for calling the Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State the "three witches."
Michigan Republican Party Chairman and University of Michigan Regent, Ron Weiser also quipped that, "other than assassination," the only way to remove Whitmer, Nessel and Benson from office was to get out and vote.
Governor Whitmer was among many to condemn his remarks. At least four of his fellow regents called for him to resign.
He issued his apology Saturday : "In an increasingly vitriolic political environment, we should all do better to treat each other with respect, myself included. I fell short of that the other night. I apologize to those I offended for the flippant analogy about three women who are elected officials and for the off-hand comments about two other leaders. I have never advocated for violence and never will. While I will always fight for the people and policies I believe in, I pledge to be part of a respectful political dialogue going forward."
He made the remarks during a taped public meeting with the North Oakland Republican Club earlier this week, while taking questions about the three leaders.
