(WWJ) One of the state's top Republicans was caught on video calling Michigan's governor, attorney general, and secretary of state "the three witches."

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser also quipped that "other than assassination" the only way to remove the three leaders from office is to get out the vote; the comment garnering scattered laughter and at least one "Wow!" from the crowd.

Weiser made the comments while taking audience questions about Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson during a public meeting with the North Oakland Republican Club earlier this week.

Nessel responded on Twitter, saying the trio are "witches who magically decrease Covid spread, increase voter turnout and hold sexual predators accountable without any help from the legislature," while adding "sign me up for that coven. "

A spokesperson Benson said: "It is horrifically reckless and unconscionable that anyone in a position of leadership or authority — knowing full well that violent rhetoric can lead to violent acts — would make such incendiary comments targeting public officials."

Appearing to defend Weiser, Michigan GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock in a tweet appeared to argue that calling the female leaders witches js OK, because Nessel appeared in a Halloween costume in a video promoting absentee voting last October.
