HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) – Drivers along I-75 near Detroit are dealing with major backups after a gravel hauler spilled dirt all over the freeway Wednesday afternoon.
Michigan State Police officials say the hauler was involved in a crash with a passenger vehicle around 2 p.m. on southbound I-75 near Caniff.
The hauler lost one of its trailers, causing it to spill dirt or sand on the right and center lanes, leaving just the left lane open.
The WWJ Traffic Center reports the freeway is backed up several miles to 7 Mile Road, with a secondary crash on the shoulder due to the backup.
MSP officials have not given word on when the lane closures may be lifted.
It was not clear what caused the crash or whether anyone was injured.
