(WWJ) -- Following a year of cancellations and stay-at-home orders, Michiganders are ready to ring in the summer!
With news that all pandemic restrictions will be lifted on July 1, many metro Detroit events are announcing their return, beginning with some Memorial Day celebrations this holiday weekend.
Here is your guide to celebrating and remembering our heroes during Memorial Day Weekend in metro Detroit:
St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade - Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m.
A Memorial Day service will be held by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bruce Post 1146 at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 32400 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. A parade will follow at 1 p.m. on Jefferson Avenue from 9 Mile Road to 11 Mile Road.
Wayne-Westland Memorial Day Parade - Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m.
The parade starts at John Glenn High School and ends at William P. Faust Library. A ceremony will be held after the parade to honor fallen heroes at the Veteran's Memorial Garden, located at 6123 Central City Pkwy, Westland, MI 48185.
Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade - Monday, May 31 at 9 a.m.
The parade will be held on Main Street beginning at 9:00 a.m. This year, the ceremony will be held on the east steps of City Hall, located at 203 S Troy St, Royal Oak, MI 48067
Sterling Heights Memorial Day Cruise – Monday, May 31 at 9 a.m.
Sterling Heights will pay tribute to local veterans with a brief ceremony in front of City Hall and a special unveiling of the newly renovated City Hall Memorial Garden. Following the ceremony, there will be a special multi-vehicle Memorial Day “cruise” in honor of our local heroes along an expanded route.
Brighton Memorial Day Parade - Monday, May 31 at 10 a.m.
The parade will be held downtown on W Main St, Brighton, MI 48116.
Hazel Park Memorial Day Bike Parade - Monday, May 31 at 11 a.m.
In place of its traditional celebration, Hazel Park is holding a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony and bike parade beginning at 11 a.m. at City Hall, located at 111 9 Mile Rd., Hazel Park, MI, 48030.
Plymouth Memorial Day Veteran's Procession - Monday, May 31 at 11 a.m.
The Plymouth Lions Club and the City of Plymouth will honor veterans during a Memorial Day Veterans Procession through City of Plymouth neighborhoods. The procession will include a brief ceremony at 10 a.m. in Veterans Park, located at 743 Church St, Plymouth, M, 48170.
Eastpointe Memorial Day Parade - Monday, May 31 at 11 a.m.
The parade will start at the military museum located 16600 Stephens (Stephens & Gratiot) and end at Spindler Park (Stephens & I-94). As 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Desert Storm, the parade will remember the nine Michigan service members who were lost in that conflict.
Memorial Day Arlington Michigan Display in Downtown Detroit - Monday, May 31 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Metro Detroit Chapter of Veterans For Peace will be holding a display of one marker for every Michigan soldier killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars on Memorial Day at downtown Detroit’s Grand Circus Park from 11am to 5pm. Grand Circus Park is located on Woodward Avenue at East Adams Street.
Madison Heights Memorial For Fallen Heroes - Saturday, May 29 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of the parade, there will be a memorial service at the gazebo in front of City Hall, where residents will be able to listen from their cars through the radio or watch while socially distanced. Officials are asking anyone who is bringing an older veteran with them to let them know on the event’s Facebook page so they can park near the gazebo.
Clarkston American Legion Breakfast and Flag Ceremony - Sunday, May 30 at 9 a.m.
While the traditional parade down Depot Road in Clarkston has been canceled, American Legion Post 63 is hosting a breakfast Sunday morning, followed by a flag ceremony at the cemetery, at approximately 10 a.m., where flags will be placed on graves of veterans.
