SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A fresh coating of 3 to 6 inches of snow is on the ground across Southeastern Michigan — and there's still more on the way.
The most snow piled up in Grand Blanc, south of Flint, where spotters with the National Weather Service are reporting 6 inches as of Thursday morning.
Nearly 5 inches of snow is reported in White Lake, in northwestern Oakland County.
Berkley and Bloomfield Hills both got around 4 inches, and around 3 inches is being reported in Beverly Hills, Canton, Farmington, Southfield and the City of Wayne.
So, what's coming next?
After a few more flakes fell Thursday — with little to no additional accumulation — AccuWeather says more snow on the way after midnight Friday.
"We're looking at a storm that's probably going to be at least a similar accumulation heading into the weekend," said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson.
"We have a storm that's going to be passing by to our south. We'll likely see some snow break out, perhaps as early as Friday night. And then we'll see snow at times throughout Saturday."
Thompson said the snow will taper off later on Saturday into Sunday morning — but not until another 4 to 8 inches or so accumulates in Metro Detroit. He said it's a bit early to give a final number for that, but they're keeping an eye on that and will update the forecast.
After that storm moves away, Thompson said Southeast Michigan will see a "real polar plunge" into early next week. "And we could be talking about, I dare to say, temperatures that start with a minus sign again into the early part of next week, at least during the nighttime hours," Thompson said.
During the day next week, Thompson said much of Metro Detroit could be looking high temperatures in the low-to-mid teens.
