MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) - An argument between a Monroe County couple spiraled out of control after the husband allegedly attacked his wife with a knife and tried to flee from police on Monday evening.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called out to a residence in the 1500 block of Stewart Road in Frenchtown Township on a domestic violence incident around 9:16 p.m. on Nov. 20.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a 62-year-old woman who had been allegedly assaulted by her husband, a 57-year-old man.
Based on their investigation, authorities learned the couple had an argument that escalated into a physical fight and ended when the husband stabbed his wife in the face multiples times.
The man fled the home in his truck prior to deputies arriving.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital by Monroe Community Ambulance for medical care. She is said to be in stable condition.
A description of the suspect vehicle was sent out to surrounding police agencies, the department said, and not "several minutes later," Deputy Andrew Boski spotted the vehicle on S. Dixie Hwy near Dunbar Road in Monroe Township.
Boski pulled the driver over and confirmed he was the suspect in the domestic violence case. He was arrested without further incident and lodge at Monroe County Jail.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect, pending his arraignment in First District Court.
The sheriff's office said officers with the City of Monroe Police Department helped with the suspect's apprehension.
