TRENTON (WWJ) - Trenton Public Schools have cancelled classes for Friday in response to an alleged threat made over social media the night before.
According to the Trenton Police Department, authorities were contacted by a resident just before 9:30 p.m. on April 20th who said their teenage daughter saw concerning photos posted online.
Police said the photos made a possible threat towards Trenton Public Schools and immediately launched an investigation.
While the department believes at this time that the threat isn't credible or immediate, district officials sent a late night email to parents and staff with their decision to cancel classes for Friday, April 21st, "out of an abundance of caution."
"Though a follow up was immediately conducted by the Trenton Police Department, the situation has not completely resolved," school officials wrote.
The department said they will continue to investigate the incident until they discover where the threat originated.
'The safety of our school students is and always will be a top priority for the Trenton Police Department, and we thank the public, especially the teen that reported the incident, for speaking up," police added.
Authorities asked for patience as they continue their investigation. Additional information will be available as it becomes known through the Trenton Police Department's social media pages.
