TROY (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old man is facing a drunken driving charge after it's alleged he drove off the road while speeding in a Jaguar SUV, last week in Troy.
Just after 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, Troy Police said officers pulled over the driver of a 2021 Jaguar F-Pace, along Coolidge Highway near Cunningham Drive.
Police said officers had spotted the driver "accelerate at a high rate of speed" before "spinning out of control" and ending up on the grass on the east side of Coolidge.
While speaking with the man, identified as a Troy resident, officers said they noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery.
When questioned, police allege that the man told the officers he'd had one drink of tequila before he got behind the wheel.
The driver was asked to try some field sobriety tests, but he "performed poorly," police said. The man then tested at .082% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a breathalyzer test, and was arrested.
That's just slightly over the legal limit of .08% to drive under Michigan law.
The man was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up where police said he took a Chemical Breath Test with results of .093% and .090% BAC, and was cited for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
His name was not released.
