RICHMOND TWP. (WWJ) — A Northern Macomb County man is expected to be arraigned Friday after allegedly strangling his father's dog to death.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at a home on Prinz Road in Richmond Township, east of Romeo, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the home after getting a call of a dead family pet and a possible threat to a family member.
The suspect, a 48-year-old man from Richmond Twp., allegedly choked and killed his father's labrador retriever, according to the sheriff's office.
The 911 caller was concerned for the welfare of both the suspect and the suspect's father, officials said.
The suspect was home alone with the dog and when his dad came home, he found the suspect with his arms around the dog and he was unable to remove them, the sheriff's office said.
The suspect also made threats to harm himself. The suspect, who was uncooperative with deputies, was eventually taken into custody.
The man has been charged with one count of third-degree killing/torturing an animal, a four-year felony. The suspect, whose name has not been released, remains held at the Macomb County Jail.
