MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County student caused a gun scare on a school bus -- only to find out it was just a toy.
Students on an Anchor Bay School District bus Tuesday alerted administrators of an alleged weapon a student had. The superintendent, Phil Jankowski, said the driver stopped at the nearest building and the student was removed without incident.
After removal, the bus and student were searched, leading to the discovery of a toy gun.
The student has been excluded from school pending investigations and disciplinary action.
The age and name of the student have not been released.
Jankowski, in a letter to the district, encouraged students and parents to have a talk about bringing weapons or anything that could be mistaken as one on a bus or school grounds.
"With too many toys that resemble weapons, it can create alarm and disrupt learning," wrote Jankowski.
The superintendent did acknowledge that mistakes happen in incidents like this, saying that students sometimes forget they have the item with them.
