Mount Pleasant man jailed on charges for arson attack on Brighton Twp. home, stalking a child on social media

BRIGHTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old man from Mount Pleasant is facing felony charges in Livingston County, after it's alleged that he stalked a child online, then tried to set their house on fire.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 28, Livingston County Sheriff's deputies responded to an address on Burton Drive in Brighton Twp. on reports that multiple Molotov cocktails being thrown at a home.

Neighbors acted quickly to put the fires out — "preventing what could have been a catastrophic outcome," according to the sheriff's office — but the deputies found fire damage to the victims' property.

The investigation revealed the attack was connected to an ongoing harassment and stalking case involving a juvenile victim over social media platforms, the sheriff's office said.

Alex Buley-Neumar of Mount Pleasant was identified as a suspect, and he was arrested by Mount Pleasant Police the following day, and booked in the Livingston County Jail.

Buley-Neumar was arraigned on in 53rd District Court on Dec. 1 on one count of Manufacturer / Possess Molotov Cocktail causing damage, a 20-year felony; one count of aggravated stalking of a minor, a 10-year felony; one count of using a computer to commit a crime, a 10-year felony. and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes, a 4 year felony.

Bond was set at $1 million.

On Friday, he remained jailed while awaiting his next court date.

The sheriff's office reminds parents to look into their child's online activities, be aware of what their children are doing on social media, and who they are talking to.
