(WWJ) – A Farmington Hills man has been arraigned on second-degree murder and felony firearm charges after allegedly shooting his sister to death outside their family business.
Zachary Holston III, 50, is accused of shooting his half-sister on Friday, May 26 outside their family's business, reportedly a chemical company started by their father, near 19 Mile and Mound Roads.
Holston was walking to his car when he was approached by his sister, Rita Evans, and her husband and daughter in the parking lot, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
Holston and Evans got into an argument and as he was getting into his car, the three family members approached the passenger door of his vehicle and a physical altercation over paperwork inside the vehicle ensued.
Authorities say the siblings then both pulled out weapons and exchanged gunfire. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Holston was arraigned Tuesday and bond was set at $500,000.00 cash/surety, no 10% with bond conditions of a GPS tether with home confinement, a mental health evaluation and no contact with the victim's family or business.
A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for June 8.
"This is not the way for family to settle family business. Gun violence will never be tolerated in Macomb County. All disputes must be settled civilly between parties in or out of the courtroom, not on the streets. The loss of a life is always a profound tragedy, and it is especially disheartening when it occurs within the bonds of family," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said in a press release.
