DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 34-year-old man has been charged with the murdering 32-year-old man after the two had a short conversation in Detroit on Thursday, according to authorities.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Monday announced the case against Larnell Fredrick Smith of Detroit in connection with the fatal shooting of Dijon Nelson, also of Detroit.

Just after 8 a.m. on Aug. 25, Detroit police responded to a home in the 17840 block of Maine Street, near E. McNichols and Nevada Ave., on a report of a shooting.

Officers found Nelson of the front steps, suffering from multiple gunshots to his upper body. He was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene, police said.

According to prosecutors, it's alleged that Smith and the victim "had a brief discussion" before Smith drew a handgun and shot Nelson multiple times, fatally wounding him.

Smith was arraigned in 36th District Court over the weekend on one count of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. Bond was set at $500,000 cash, and a probable cause conference in the case was scheduled for Sept. 8.

Authorities did not say how Smith and Nelson knew each other or what they were talking about before the shooting.
