
(WWJ) -- Michigan is still dealing with a fourth surge in COVID-19 infections and continuing to beat tragic records.
According to state health officials, COVID hospitalizations across Michigan have exceeded previous reported records for the fifth straight time, with nearly 4,700 suspected COVID-19 patients.
There are roughly 4,400 confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized, which is the highest point it's been at in the almost two-year pandemic.
Confirmed COVID-19 hospitilzations have increased by 150 compared to more than a week ago.
The state recorded 351 additional deaths, including 166 in the most recent 48-hour period.
Beaumont hospitals have come out with their own numbers, with 563 COVID patients in all of their eight hospitals combined.
131 of those patients are at Beaumont-Royal Oak.
Dr. Chris Carpenter said that more than 70% of these patients are unvaccinated.
Carpenter also said there's a higher percentage of unvaccinated patients in the ICU.
