Motorcyclist critically injured in crash with car on Gratiot Ave.

(WWJ) A Macomb County motorcyclist is hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Gratiot Ave., Tuesday morning.

The Chesterfield Twp Police and Fire Departments responded just before 6:30 a.m. to Gratiot Ave., north of Carriage Way Dr., between 23 and 24 Mile roads.

First responders at the scene found a damaged Chevrolet passenger car and a heavily damaged Harley Davidson motorcycle, with the wreckage blocking the southbound Gratiot Ave lanes.

According to police, an initial investigation found that the driver of the Chevy had turned left in front of the Harley, causing the crash.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 49-year-old Chesterfield resident, was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, police said.

The Chevy driver, a 35 year-old Mt. Clemens man, suffered minor facial injuries.

All lanes of Gratiot were closed for about 2 1/2 hours at the scene, but have since reopened to traffic.

The Chesterfield Twp. Detective Bureau and Chesterfield Crash Investigators are continuing their investigation
