OAK PARK (WWJ) -- Two people were arrested over the weekend after a Michigan State Police trooper stopped to help the driver of a disabled vehicle over the weekend.
It happened Sunday, April 23, according to the MSP Second District, along 10 Mile Rd. in Oak Park.
MSP said a trooper with the Metro North Post spoke with the driver, who said he'd run out of gas after driving to Novi to pick up another person, who was sitting in the backseat of the car.
When the trooper asked the driver if he had weapons in the car, he admitted he had a 9mm handgun with him, and didn't have a CPL.
The driver was arrested on a charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW).
Police then searched the car, and found a black grocery bag in the rear seat which allegedly contained heroin, LSD sugar cubes and a scale.
MSP found the bag also contained credit cards with the rear passenger's name on it, and that passenger was also arrested.
Both suspects were taken to the Oakland County Jail, pending a prosecutor review.
“Great job by the troopers involved continuing to look for illegal guns while on patrol," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “This is one less illegal gun as well as narcotics making it into our community.”
The names of the two people in custody were not immediately released.
