DETROIT (WWJ) -- An alleged shooting on a Detroit freeway left two people injured overnight.

Michigan State Police said a Detroit man reported he was driving on eastbound I-96 between the Davison and Livernois, just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, when someone pulled up alongside his car and started shooting.

The 57-year old driver and a 22-year old passenger were hit in the leg and the thigh, according to MSP.

A second passenger wasn't hurt.

Police say the victims lost sight of the suspect's vehicle near I-96 and West Grand Blvd. They then drove to a hospital for treatment.

The freeway was closed for about four hours overnight as MSP troopers searched for evidence.

“Troopers and canine units did not locate any shell casings or evidence along the freeway,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “They will continue to look for evidence to locate where the shooting occurred and attempt to determine a suspect, suspect vehicle or motive."

Wednesday afternoon, MSP announced sections of the freeway would be closed again for further investigation.

Any drivers who may have seen something, or anyone who knows anything that could help police with this case, is asked to call State Police at 855.MICH.TIP, or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (800-773-2587).
