EAST LANSING (WWJ) - Adults of legal drinking age might be allowed to enjoy a libation or two while at MSU sporting events starting this fall.

The Michigan State Board of Trustees will be voting on Wednesday morning to allow alcohol sales at football, basketball, hockey and baseball games.

A special meeting will be held to consider amending the university’s alcoholic beverages ordinance. The amendment is now allowed after Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill for university sales in July.

The intent is to obtain licenses for Spartan Stadium, the Breslin Center, the Munn Ice Arena and Old College Field, which includes DeMartin Soccer Stadium, Secchia Stadium and McLane Baseball Stadium.

If passed, beer and other alcohol will be sold at four football games starting September 16th during the game against Washington. This would leave the stadium dry for the home opener against Central Michigan University and the next game against Richmond.

Also on Wednesday's agenda, the Board of Trustees is voting on authorizing the administration to apply for other special licenses as may be necessary to sell alcohol in support of events and activities that occur on lands governed or controlled by the board.

Registration for public comment is open until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
