(WWJ) -- The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says no charges will be filed in the case of a woman who died while in the Harper Woods Police Department jail last June.

An autopsy and another examination by an independent medical examiner shows 37-year-old Priscilla Slater died from a heart attack and her June 10, 2020, death was natural, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Thursday.

The prosecutor says there was no evidence that Slater was in any way harmed or mistreated while in custody.

Worthy also said there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the civilian aide on duty when Slater died failed to perform their duties or performed them in a negligent way.

"On June 10, 2020, Ms. Priscilla Slater was 37-years-old when she died of natural causes while housed in a Harper Woods Police Department jail cell," Worthy said in a written statement. "She was cogent and appropriate when speaking with the police and jail staff and did not complain of any medical issues while she was in the jail. There was no evidence that she was in any way harmed or mistreated while in custody. This case investigation took an extraordinary amount of time and attention due to a number of circumstances outlined in our press release."

Slater, 37, and her boyfriend, Lewis Nichols, both of Detroit, were arrested on June 9 at the Park Crest Motel on 8 Mile Road following a reported shooting, according to the prosecutor's office.

Officials say the responding Harper Woods police officers interviewed multiple witnesses, viewed surveillance video from the motel and found Slater and Nichols asleep in the back seat of a Chevy Monte Carlo in the hotel parking lot.

Body camera footage shows the couple were awakened and emerged slowly form the back seat, both apparently intoxicated, before being arrested.

Slater admitted to drinking that night, but denied having taken drugs. Police found a handgun in the trunk of the Monte Carlo and ammunition in the same caliber in a purse that belonged to Slater. Authorities also found 11 grams of Fentanyl in the bag.

Prosecutors reviewed hours of footage showing Slater's arrest, transport and time in the Harper Woods jail, and ultimately found no evidence of wrongdoing by any of the officers or civilian aides involved.
