Detroit Police Department

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police say they have located the mother of a little girl who was found wandering alone in the city on Monday.

At around 9:50 a.m., the DPD said an officer spotted the child walking alone in the area of Ardmore and Pembroke, south of 8 Mile Rd. near the Lodge Freeway on the city's west side. She was taken to the 12th Precinct.

Police said the child does not speak, and estimated that she is 5 years old.

After asking for tips to help identify her, the DPD sent an update shortly before noon stating that the child has been reunited with her mother.

It's unclear how the little girl came to be wandering by herself.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
