OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) An Oakland County business and a Detroit church are teaming up to help those without a home amid these frigid cold temperatures.
Perspire Sauna Studio—which has locations in Birmingham, Novi and Rochester Hills—is hosting a warm clothing drive. It’s in partnership with The Corner Shower and Laundry, “a simple mission” run from the basement of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Trumbull.
“Of course, with the weather like it is this time of year it’s important to remember those who are not as warm as we are,” Stephanie Ubaydi, who co-owns Perspire’s Metro Detroit locations with her husband, Rami, said. “Providing this small gesture to help preserve warmth and dignity is something important to our core values.”
The Corner Shower and Laundry "provides dignity" to the homeless population in Corktown, according to Perspire's press release.
The Ubaydis say the items most in need include men’s sizes L and XL.
They are collecting: socks and underwear; durable pants; sturdy shoes and warm boots; zip-up hoodies; belts; water-resistant jackets; small umbrellas that can be tucked in a bag; warm coats; gloves, hats and scarves; packages of hand warmers; long-sleeved shirts that can be layered; and totes or large Ziploc bags to keep items dry.
Collection boxes will be available at all of Metro Detroit’s Perspire locations: Birmingham (1020 Haynes), Novi (47470 Grand River), and Rochester Hills (1198 Walton).
The collection will continue until Valentine’s Day, February 14.
