(WWJ) – Officials say a plane that crashed into a West Michigan pond on Saturday morning was performing "touch and go maneuvers" before the crash.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Saturday on Hardy Dam Pond in Newaygo County. When Newaygo County Sheriff's deputies showed up, they found the two men who were in the plane had safely made it to a boat in the area.

The men were identified Sunday as a 55-year-old from Grand Haven, Mich., and a 56-year-old from Lebanon, Tenn. Neither was injured in the crash.

Authorities said Sunday preliminary investigation revealed the airplane was "performing touch and go maneuvers on the water when it started taking on water."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was contacted and responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office dive team assisted Jerry's Towing with removing the airplane out of the water.

The incident remains under investigation.
