ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WWJ) – Authorities are investigating after school officials at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills found a note containing “disturbing language” in a restroom on Wednesday.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said they do not believe it is a credible threat, but deputies remained at the school Wednesday afternoon, investigating “out of an abundance of caution.”
School officials are following protocols to ensure the safety of students and faculty members, the OCSO said.
Police did not reveal what the note said.
Meanwhile in Macomb County, authorities investigated a snapchat message that was suspected of coming from a Dakota High School student. The investigation showed the message was not connected to Dakota or its students.
The high school and three other nearby schools were placed on lockdown during the investigation.
Neither threat appears to be credible after initial investigations.
The investigations come in the midst of a rash of school threats across metro Detroit in the week since the deadly Oxford High School shooting.
More than a dozen metro Detroit students have been charged with making threats or false threats against their schools in recent days, including a 16-year-old at Armada High School who is facing false report of terrorism charges for allegedly making a threat because he wanted to get out of class.
“As a reminder, anyone that makes these kinds of threats will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said in a tweet regarding Wednesday’s incident at Stoney Creek.
