DETROIT (WWJ) - A little girl has been safely reunited with her family after a carjacking in Detroit over the weekend, but investigators are still searching for the suspect allegedly involved — and they're turning to the public for help.

The Detroit Police Department is offering a $500 reward for tips leading to the arrest of a male suspect in the incident after a 2006 Chrysler 300 was stolen with a toddler in the backseat around 11:15 p.m. Saturday at a gas station in the 5400 block of Schoolcraft.

An Amber Alert was issued in select communities for 3-year-old Kemahanni King during the overnight hours, but the alert was canceled Sunday morning around 7 a.m.

According to Michigan State Police, the girl was found in the Chrysler, but the suspect was not there. It was not immediately clear where the car and girl were located.

Detroit police said the toddler was checked out by medical personnel as a precaution.

"We appreciate the community's assistance, media partners and everyone who has shared this post, including our law enforcement partners," the department added. "The investigation continues and will be handled by our Organized Crime division."

As of Tuesday, February 27, the suspect remains at large.

Authorities described the suspect as a Black male between the ages of 45-50 years old, with a grey mustache and grey beard. He is estimated to stand 5-foot-5 to 6-feet-tall and was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket, grey hoodie and grey sweatpants.

Anyone who recognizes the man, knows of his whereabouts, or knows something else about the case has been asked to call the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-2260.

To be eligible for the $500 reward, tips leading to an arrest must be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up or online here. Case number 2402250005 must be included in your tip.

All information submitted to Crime Stoppers can remain 100% anonymous.
