TROY (WWJ) -- A Royal Oak woman is facing a pair of criminal charges after an incident at a Troy church, earlier this month.
At around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1, the Troy Police Department responded to St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church on Livernois about a reported assault.
Officers spoke with the victim, who said she'd been giving money to the suspect — a 39-year-old Royal Oak woman — to help her get her affairs in order.
It was supposed to be a loan; the victim telling police that the suspect had agreed to pay her back.
That afternoon, the victim said the suspect came to the church and asked to have coffee with the victim.
While the victim was making coffee, she said the suspect grabbed her purse and ran out of the church. When the victim followed her outside to try to get her purse back, the suspect allegedly pushed her to the ground.
Police said the suspect tried to flee the scene in a taxi, but was stopped by multiple people and kept at the church until officers arrived.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up where she was charged with Unarmed Robbery and Larceny.
Her name was not immediately released.
