LANSING (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police (MSP) are warning of a scam targeting the employers of registered sex offenders.
MSP First District said a suspect identifying as "Trooper Callahan", badge 1062, contacted employers of citizens on the Sex Offender Registry.
"Callahan" attempted to obtain personal information; and collect payment for outstanding warrants and fees, according to MSP.
Authorities reiterated they will never ask for payment or demand personal details over the phone.
MSP did not specify exactly when or where these calls took place.
If you receive a call from "Trooper Callahan", MSP urges you to hang up immediately.
