Small airplane crashes into Livingston County pond after losing engine

BRIGHTON (WWJ) - The pilot of a small aircraft managed to escape a crash-landing in a Livingston County pond with only minor injuries after his lost his engine on Saturday morning.

The Brighton Police Department said authorities from multiple responding agencies converged on Advance Street in the City of Brighton around 8:20 a.m. on August 19 after receiving a report of a single airplane crash in the area.

When they arrived on the scene, authorities came across s small body of water at the end of Advance Street where they found a partially submerged plane.

The male pilot and only occupant was located sitting on top of the aircraft with minor injuries.

Brighton police said the pilot was flying to Tennessee out of Pontiac when he "lost his engine." The pilot was then forced to make an emergency landing in Livingston County.

The pilot was taken to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for further evaluation.

"There were no injuries to anyone on the ground and there was no property damaged on the ground during this incident," police added.

In addition to the Brighton City Police Department, other responding agencies included Michigan State Police, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, and firefighters from the Brighton Area Fire Authority.

The department said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and also responded to the scene to investigate.
