
NOVI (WWJ) - A manhunt for a suspect who allegedly open fired on officers in Detroit over the weekend was tracked down to a Novi trailer park and arrested by authorities Monday evening.
The Detroit Police Department announced suspect Tyler Hood, 33, was apprehended on Feb. 28 in Oakland County near Washington and Jackson streets — Novi police, the homicide task force and the Michigan State Police were credited with Hood's arrest.
Police stated that an investigation which began on Saturday night in Detroit led authorities to a home in the 26000 block of Jackson Street where trained negotiators were able to get Hood out safely.
Authorities said there was a woman inside the home at the time police arrived and she unharmed in the ordeal. She was identified as the same woman who was with Hood at the time the manhunt began 48 hours earlier, police added.
Detroit police began searching for Hood, who was considered to be "armed and dangerous," after officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the city's west side and saw a man with a gun get into a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The officers attempted to pull the man over, but the suspect fired his weapon at police and took off from the scene.
Officers pursued the vehicle where DPD says three more shots were fired at police, but no one was harmed. The chase was brief, lasting only a mile and a half, police said.
The suspect ended up ditching the vehicle before running away from the area on foot in the area of Bramble and Lyndon
A female passenger, who was in the vehicle with Hood when he escaped, spoke with and cooperated with police.
DPD considered Hood "armed and dangerous" as a weapon was not recovered at the scene.
