Detroit man charged with murder in double shooting at Romulus liquor store

(WWJ) A Taylor man has been charged in a deadly double shooting at a Romulus liquor store.

The Wayne County Prosecutor has charged Lajohn Washington, 24, in connection with shooting and killing Chevron Lawrence of Detroit. He was only 28-years-old.


Washington was also charged with shooting an 18-year-old man from Taylor, who survived and has not been named.

Prosecutor Worthy said Washington and the victims were at a liquor store on Eureka at Inkster on August 23. At approximately 11 p.m.; Washington is accused of taking out his gun, killing Lawrence and shooting the 18-year-old man.

Many questions remain including what prompted Washington to open fire, and the connection between the suspect and the victims, if any.

Washington, who fled the scene, was arrested on Monday (9/20).

He has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm. He is being held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond. If bond is posted, he will be ordered to wear a GPS tether. He is due back in court on October 6.
