Teen thrown 200 feet off moped after being hit by car on I-275 in Huron Township

HURON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A teenage woman has been hospitalized following an accident on I-275.

The crash happened just before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night on northbound I-275 near Pennsylvania Road in Huron Township.

State police say an 18-year-old woman was traveling in the right lane on a moped at a low speed when a car rear-ended the bike, ejecting the rider and throwing her 200 feet.

The young woman was transported to a local hospital where she's being treated for serious injuries. The other driver was not injured, and said they had underestimated the moped’s speed.

The moped rider told investigators that she accidentally entered the freeway while traveling from Flat Rock to Ypsilanti.

Police say that alcohol and drugs were not involved in the incident.
