DETROIT (WWJ) — Have ever become so angry you’ve wanted to smash some things?

Well now, thanks to an $85,000 Motor City Match grant, there's a place where you can do just that — The Damage Zone.

Located on the Lodge Service Drive near Puritan on the city’s west side, it’s a “rage room” that recently opened, giving Detroiters a chance to “smash all your anger away.”

And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like — you take a baseball bat, sledgehammer or any number of items and just swing away in a room full of household items. That includes anything from plates and glasses to mirrors, TVs, old VHS players and much more.

It gives you a chance to be “a responsible psycho” and release your anger, stress, frustration and more through 30-minute rage room sessions.

Owner and founder Zienethe Holifield said there’s a little method to the madness — it’s not just for fun. Holifield, a former corrections officer with a background in mental health, said the rage room is a great way to relieve stress.

“I provide this place so that they can let it go, release, and after that we do deep breathing, we focus on leaving all that stress and heavy emotions right here at the Damage Zone so they can be a better person when they walk out of here,” Holifield said.

Holifield said she hopes the Damage Zone will help Detroiters release their anger in a more constructive way and reduce violence in the streets.

The Damage Zone also offers rage rooms geared towards kids, as well as ax throwing. More information can be found on the Damage Zone website.
