TROY (WWJ) – A Troy man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught driving drunk immediately after leaving the gym.
Employees at the LA Fitness on Big Beaver Road in Troy called police shortly before 4 p.m. last Wednesday, reporting the man they believed to be drunk.
Employees told police a member of the gym "appeared to be intoxicated or having a medical issue" and had just left the parking lot in a 2009 Dodge Caravan, according to Troy police.
Officers spotted the van near the exit of the shopping plaza and pulled the driver over.
Once they began talking with him they noticed the 36-year-old man, whose name has not been released, had watery and bloodshot eyes. He was also slurring his speech and smelled of alcohol, officials said.
Authorities say the man failed several field sobriety tests and failed to submit to a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up Facility, where medical personnel drew his blood.
The case has been turned over to the Troy Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned, officials said. It's not clear what charges he may face.
