Gravel hauler driver from Livonia is killed, found underneath tractor trailer following accident in Ann Arbor: police

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Ann Arbor police are investigating what appears to be tragic accident involving a truck driver run over by his own vehicle.

At around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the Ann Arbor PD said officers were called to the area of Pauline Blvd. and Hutchins Ave. for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

A 64-year-old Livonia man was found unresponsive underneath a tractor trailer with trauma to his body, police said, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim was the driver of the gravel hauler involved in the incident.

Police said had had just dropped off loads of sand at a nearby construction site. He got out of his truck and was in the process of trying to reconnect the front trailer to the rear trailer when he became trapped underneath.

Pauline Blvd. was closed between Main and 7th Street during the investigation but reopened late Tuesday night.

The man's name was not released.

Police said the investigation into how this happened is ongoing.
