ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- A semi truck driver is hospitalized after his rig flipped over along I-94, in Ann Arbor Township.
According to Michigan State Police, the crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near Jackson Avenue.
Official said the gravel hauler jackknifed and went off the south shoulder of the highway, within 100 feet of a nearly identical crash on Sept. 3.
The truck driver, a 55-year-old Muskegon man, was pinned in the cab and needed to be rescued by firefighters from Ann Arbor and Scio Township.
Ann Arbor Fire said access was difficult due to steep terrain and mud, requiring the use of chainsaws to clear trees to reach the cab — but firefighters were able to get the man out.
He was taken by EMS to University of Michigan Hospital for treatment "serious but non-life-threatening" injuries.
MSP said the man was later listed in stable condition.
Fire officials said the gravel trailer was empty, no other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported.
MSP said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
As of 2 p.m., the eastbound lanes of I-94 remained closed at M-14.
