HOWELL TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Two people sustained minor injuries on Wednesday after the van they were in slid on an icy road and was hit by an oncoming train in Livingston County.

Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene on Barron Road just west of Oak Grove Road in Howell Township for a report of a crash involving a van and a train during the day on Jan. 25.

The sheriff's office said a preliminary investigation found snowy conditions in the area caused the van to slide on the slick roadway and prevented the driver from halting at a stop sign at Barron Road.

The van was then struck by a freight train which caused the vehicle to flip over and crash into a ditch.

The sheriff's office said the driver of the van, along with one other passenger, were taken to a local hospital by Livingston County EMS for treatment of minor injuries.

"Don't worry," the sheriff's office reassured on social media while sharing a photo of the crash scene. "Everyone involved in this photo is doing well. Thank Goodness!"

In addition to deputies and EMS personnel, the Howell Area Fire Department helped at the scene.
