DETROIT (WWJ) – Ford threw quite the party Wednesday night to wrap up the Press Preview day of the 2022 North American International Auto Show, as it unveiled the all-new 2024 Mustang at Hart Plaza.
WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert was on-hand as Ford set up the “Mustang Stampede,” with more than 1,00 Mustangs along Jefferson Avenue in downtown Detroit ahead of the unveiling.
It was all part of the build-up to the big reveal as Ford showed off what is expected to be its last all-gasoline powered Mustang, the most powerful version yet.
The Mustang is set to go on sale next summer, offering a new 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a wide range of featured options.
“They also rolled out a special edition, a 500-horsepower Dark Horse edition, which is meant for racing, for people who want to drive on the roads, drive on the track,” Gilbert reported live on WWJ Wednesday night.

There were also several racing variants and at the very end of the presentation, Chairman Bill Ford said the company plans to race a version of the Mustang at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – the legendary annual race in France.
Gilbert reports production of the new Mustang will begin at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in the next few months.
While it won’t hit the roads until next summer, it will be on display starting this weekend at the NAIAS.
